Weight, A Tooth, Starting to Crawl, Stranger’s Wrath, and One Year at OW!

Stranger’s Wrath

This has been a pretty eventful week for us. The game that Jamie has been working on with Oddworld released on Tuesday (Best Buy said it would be in stores on Thursday) and to GREAT reviews! We are all very excited about the game and looking forward to seeing more and more about its success now that it’s released. Oddworld’s President, Loren Lanning has been on several shows on G4TV.com (which used to be Tech TV) talking about the game. One show was devoted to it that premiered last night called Cheats – so if you want to check it out I am sure they will play the show with Stranger’s Wrath again.

Happy Anniversary to Jameson!

Today is Jameson’s first anniversary of working at Oddworld! Congrats honey! I am so proud of all your hard work and efforts that you have contributed to the company! Oddworld even sent a company wide email to congratulate him – how nice :)

Kian has His First Tooth!

It finally popped out yesterday! He never had any drooling or real fussiness during the whole thing – he’s a trooper! You really won’t know he was teething unless you looked in his mouth or saw him gnawing on his finger. I will take a picture of it when I can – it sure it sharp!

Update on Kian's Weight

Kian gained 10 ounces in the last week! He now weighs 14lbs. 13 ounces. The Doctor was very pleased to say the least! We have to do weight checks on him every week for a while but so far it looks like he's still playing catch up from his hospitalization in November. So no tests yet and it looks like everything is going well with his weight.

Right now I am very concerned about my breast milk. I am taking Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle and I feel as though my milk is declining. I am borrowing a scale from my lactation consultant so I can see how much he’s getting and today after his nap he only got .6 of an ounce :( He had to work really hard to get that too. I am going to see if I can bump up the Blessed Thistle again and see if I can get more of a let down happening so he doesn’t have to work so hard for so little. He’s been having very good pee-pee diapers lately so I have just figured that he’s getting enough. I am going to have to work pretty hard at getting it up – I might even start doing some of those old fashioned oats oatmeal smoothies (yum – not!). I will have the scale until Friday morning so I will be using it until then – I am praying that things will go better. We would appreciate some prayers in that area as Kian won’t take a bottle or formula.

Kian has gained well!

Well, Kian is doing good :) His ear infection has cleared up and he gained 7 ounces in the last week! Dr. Bravo was VERY pleased to say the least! He asked me what exactly I was feeding him and I was able to tell him about Kian’s troubles breastfeeding – he won’t stay on very long during the day because he wants to be active and babble. He told me to do EXACTLY what I was doing this week and hopefully he will gain another 6 ounces at least. He said that we might even start him on whole milk earlier than a year just to help him bulk up – he said that Kian definitely not a typical kid. If not we might do some tests. Dr. Bravo was very happy to know that Kian can gain weight though. I guess since we saw him last week he talked to the doctor we had in the hospital to see what tests she ran to see if something might have been missed. It makes me feel good that we are in his care – he seems to be very concerned and wants to get to the bottom of this if there is a bottom. Right now I would like to ask everyone to continue prayers for Kian and keep him in their thoughts….that if there is something wrong that it would make itself known and if not that he would just gain well.

Funny thing is that Dr. Bravo looked in his ears and in his mouth (his teeth are about to poke through) and Kian just let him do whatever lol It’s so funny how easy going Kian is (for the most part). Which is such a drastic change from how he used to be!

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and thoughts. Keep them coming!

From Daddy's Blog :)

I was looking at Jamie's blog today and noticed a funny story I wanted to post here too. Here it is: Jamie tells it better than I do because he was there!

"It's Christmas Eve, and I'm at the grocery store with Sarah's Uncle Dave, and her Step Father Randy...

I'm standing behind them both in the check out lane, when a guy behind me tries to get Randy's attention to ask where he got his Brett Favre jersey that he's wearing.

I told the guy that he arrived from Wisconsin the day before, and it came with him.

The guy says he's been looking everywhere for one and cant' find one for less that $50. His Son wants one REALLY bad, and he's been unable to get one yet. (this is Christmas Eve)

He offers Randy $20 for the Jersey...to which he kind of smirks and say's it would cost more to replace it.

So after we are finished checking out, the guy says how about $40! Randy is tempted...but decides that he'd better not.

So we get just outside the doors, and the guy comes running up and offers $50 for it! Randy agrees, and the guy says he needs to go to the ATM. He leaves his groceries sitting on the ground near us...and takes off running.

After we've been standing there for a while, the guy comes flying back through the doors...and says he was afraid we'd left! There was a line at the atm.

Up until this point, i just thought it was a nice thing for Randy to do... but once we saw how uncontrollably happy this guy was about getting this jersey, it was awesome. He was pumping his fist in the air, and acting like a 10 year old. His son should have a good Christmas, and we have a story to tell :)"

When Randy came back to the house without it on it took a while for my Mom to realize that he didn't have his jearsey. She then told Randy she bought it on a clearance rack at Shopko (only found in WI) for like $15! hehe Oh well, at least this kid had a good Christmas :)

Little Update on Kian

Sleep...What's that?

Well, Kian is starting to sleep a bit better now that I think his antibiotics have started to help his ear infection. Jamie and I are really working on getting Kian to sleep better and we realized that he really won't sleep without me. Tonight we started having Jamie go in there with him most of the time when he cries and with each time he is crying for less time and falling asleep. Right now the two of them are asleep together :) How sweet :) Soon we will once again begin the transition from our bed and set up a plan for what we are going to do with Kian during night time stuff. For now this is the only change as we want him to get well and get lots of rest.

Getting that Weight Back Up

I am getting a bit anxious about going to see Dr. Bravo on Wednesday. I am hoping that Kian's weight it back up but I am still going to push for testing just to make sure that everything is ok with him. I have started giving Kian solids three times a day and he is starting to take a little bit of prune juice and water from a bottle - he loves that combo. And when I say a little bit I mean 1/2 ounce tops. I think it will be really funny when he's 15 years old and eating everything in the house for us to tell him how bad he was at keeping his weight on lol

Sad News - Our Friends are Moving :(

Our friends Steve and Lisa are moving next month to Seattle. Jamie works with Steve and they quickly became good friends. We have hung out with them a lot and they were even Kian's first visitors ever in the hospital. They also attended Kian's dedication and we plan to have Kian call them Uncle Steve and Aunt Lisa. We sure will miss them more than we can express. We are excited though that they are engaged! Steve proposed over the Christmas break :) They have a date set for October 2006 - so we all will be making a trip up there for the wedding :) Jamie will be a groomsman :) We are sad to see them go but we are also very excited about the opportunity that Steve has. We wish many blessings upon them! We love you guys!

Christmas, Colds, Size of Clothes, and lots of Worry

Christmas

Christmas was wonderful :) My parents flew in on the 23rd and we spent Christmas at my Uncle Dave and Aunt Lori’s place. It was a full house to say the least! On Christmas Eve my cousin Allison, her husband Scott and her daughter Camlyn came to celebrate. My Grandma and Grandpa Zuelzke were there too. We also brought Toby with us. We had to add on to the table this year for dinner!

Then we opened gifts on Christmas morning and it took about 3 hours! We open gifts one at a time so we can all see what everyone got. Kian had so many gifts that he had to open two every turn and he still was last to open gifts! hehe He sure enjoyed all of his new toys :)

Clothes

Kian is starting to wear his 6-9 month clothing finally! He’s kind of in that in-between stage right now where the 3-6 month stuff is too small and the 6-9 month stuff is just a big big – especially length wise. He is mainly wearing one piece outfits and pajamas right now in the larger size but I hope to see him in the other stuff real soon.

Colds

We all had colds this Christmas. Jamie got it first and then me and Kian got it. We are all still getting over them. Kian has taken the worst hit of all. He has been refusing a bottle altogether and it’s been a huge task for me to keep him hydrated – his diapers are still pretty dry. I called Dr. Bravo’s office today and asked about his cough and if there was reason to be concerned as he seemed to be wheezing between coughs. The nurse told me to feel on his chest when he wasn’t making noise or coughing and I did so she said he needed an appointment to make sure he didn’t have bronchitis or an infection in his lungs.

Dr. Bravo weighed Kian and he has lost almost and entire pound from the last time he was in. He also has an ear infection in his right ear. Dr. Bravo told me he was concerned about how many set backs he has had with his weight and that next week if he hasn’t gained well then he is going to run some tests to see if something might be wrong with Kian. Dr. Bravo said that if it were his son he would want tests run. I think that I might even just have him run the tests anyway for my peace of mind. If something is wrong with him I want to start treatment right away and if there isn’t then I know that he’s just a stubborn little guy. I sure hope he’s stubborn! We would appreciate your prayers for him!

Kian is such a happy guy that I never knew his ear was bothering him. I just knew he was a bit cranky and it might be from teething along with the cold. I never thought I would walk out of the Dr.’s office with script for an ear infection. I am so glad that I brought him though. We will go back to see Dr. Bravo next Wednesday for a follow-up and weight check which might result in some blood work – I am hoping to get blood work anyway and I thinking that Dr. Bravo will feel the same way.
