Great news on Kian's weight!

I took Kian to see Dr. Bravo on Wednesday. We had an appointment to get him checked out to see if it was ok to go ahead and to blood tests. I wasn't sure he would want to do them since Kian is just getting over bronchitis - he doesn't have any symptoms anymore but Sunday was the last time we heard him wheezing. Also, when I took Kian in last Tuesday he was down to 15lbs 13ounces when he was 16lbs. 4 ounces the week before.

Well, this week I bring Kian in and his favorite nurse, Stacy, weighs him and he's 17lbs!!!!! Yep, that's right! He gained a pound and 3 ounces in a week! I was hoping that he would have gained at least 6 ounces but this is leaps and bounds above what I thought was a lofty goal for his weight this week! Stacy always balances the scale before she weighs him so I knew it was right but I looked at it several times! When the Dr. came him he checked the numbers twice and even checked the balance of the scale too! He was amazed! :) He actually asked me what I was doing Kian hehe I told him that Kian was very gaggy and vomited several times when I would feed him while he was sick so I would feed him a little bit at a time and more often throughout the day. Kian also only wanted yogurt for about two days in a row so I am sure that helped! lol (Thanks Yo-baby!)

The Dr. told me that he was going to go forward with the tests but he was 99% sure that Kian is fine! :) From what I know they tested for cystic fiborsis and growth hormone deficiency. There was one more test on there but I didn't know what it was for. The lab told me that the results for everything would be in in about 3-5 days (the CF test takes longer).

The Dr. also told me that I didn't need to come in for weekly weight checks anymore! I can come in whenever I want though to do it...he said that all the girls in the office know about Kian and they will help me check his weight. That was exciting! I think that I might go every other week for a while though just to give myself peace of mind.

Kian is feeling better and seems to be healthy....I am so proud of my little man! Now if we can get those two front teeth to come through so he would stop being a crab that would be AWESOME! lol

Kian's food aversion

Dr. Bravo told me that it actually has a name (I can't remember what it is though). Kian doesn't like any whole type foods in his mouth...he gags, vomits or spits it out of his mouth. It was REALLY bad when he was sick. He wouldn't even take Stage 2 baby food that is pureed. I asked Dr. Bravo what I should do about it and he told me that I didn't need to do anything that Kian will grow out of it. He also said that babies that have had a feeding tube often have this problem with eating (nice huh?). He told me to just stick with the Stage 2 foods as they have enough calories for him...so that is what we will do for now. I plan to try to give him a more whole type food every once in a while but for now he's still having gagging problems (even vomitted two days ago for some reason) so I'm not too concerned about it.

Kian is doing better every day. He still has a cough and a little bit of wheezing. I only gave him one breathing treatment in the morning yesterday and today I won’t give him one unless I think it will be necessary. He’s a complete crab today though! He's pretty cranky.

Usually we go to Mom’s Group on Thursdays and I have actually offered my house for the month of March but we have yet to have a group here :( I don’t want to risk maybe giving the babies anything so I am keeping Kian away from group again this week. Hopefully next Thursday he will be a lot better – especially seeing it will be his first St. Patrick’s Day!

I have to say that these past two weeks the house has become a sort of jail cell for me. I can say that I can kind of know what it's like to be Martha Stewart locked inside her house...at least she gets visitors and can leave the house for 48 hours a week hehe I have only left the house during daylight when I had to take Kian to the doctor. Yeah, two weeks will drive you mad! I did get out a little bit on the weekend though which was nice. I know I will need that again this week! Having a sick child is no fun :( Having a sick child who is not real healthy in the first place is certainly not fun and having a Mom who is not even remotely happy makes no fun for anyone.

Hopefully Kian will be considerably better by this weekend.

Update 3/7/05

I called the Dr. in the morning right away and was able to speak to a nurse. I asked her some questions and after talking a while told her I wasn’t sure his cough was any better. So she made an appointment at 4:15 for us and told me to call if it got worse. He actually got better throughout the day but I still felt I should bring him in. He was still wheezing a lot so even though I felt like he was getting better I figured I should still keep the appointment.

The Dr. listened to his lungs and said that he’s still having difficulty breathing but they are better. I am suppose to use the breathing machine less often and that he should be much better by the end of the week – yippee another week trapped in the house! hehe

We looked at Kian’s weight per my request and he’s back down to 15lbs. 15 ounces :( He was at 16lbs. 4 ounces on Friday when I brought him in. I have been feeding him things slowly and over giving him breaks so that the gag reflex doesn’t happen. The Dr.’s nurse said they gag when they are congested. Right now all he seems to want for sure is Yo-Baby…at least that has a lot of calories in it!

So, that’s the word around here for now. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers! Kian certainly needs them and so do I lol!

Kian's a little Trooper

Kian had a rough weekend (and so did Jamie and I). Kian still isn’t feeling well. The breathing treatments I have been giving him don’t seem to be working anymore and he has had a slight temperature (99.5) since Friday night. We also purchased a new humidifier that really works (the cheapo one we got at Walmart never really worked so we thought it was time to get a good one – I had a coupon too). I can tell that the room is humidified when I walk in his room. He also hasn’t been eating well. This morning he threw up his cereal while I was feeding it to him. He did eat a container of Yo-Baby Yogurt. For lunch he had 1 ½ jars of baby food. And dinner he threw up an entire jar of chicken and sweet potato (his favorite) after eating it and being very hungry. I got out more some yogurt and he ate a little of it…maybe a half container. He did take a sippy cup throughout the day with whole milk in it. But I have a feeling he has lost some weight – I just hope not too much.

Dr. Araya (the Dr. that works in Bravo’s office and is there on Fridays and other days to fill in) said that Kian should be much better within two days of taking the antibiotic. It has been two days now and he still has rattling in his chest and now won’t eat much. I will be calling Dr. Bravo’s office in the morning and hopefully I can get in – Monday’s are pretty busy and usually it’s hard to get someone on the phone.

Please keep Kian in your prayers. He’s been such a trooper. He takes his breathing treatments well. He doesn’t like sitting on my lap for that long of a period of time but he endures it. And from time to time we see the old, happy, loves to play Kian. At other times he just crashes and falls asleep with no aid at all (I usually have to swaddle him and rock him).

Kian is sick yet again :(

Kian has bronchitis or a bronchial infection :( I took him to see the Ped today because I thought he had an ear infection again. His ears are fine but he was wheezing and coughing all day long yesterday and today it was getting worse. He got a breathing treatment in the office which worked until we got home (I am going to call there as soon as they are back from lunch).

It's unreal how easily Kian gets sick. We can't leave him in the church nursery and I am afraid to even use the cry room as most parents that have kids that are sick and can't take them to the nursery come to the cry room! There are newborns in there (that rant is for another day! hehe) Anyway, people LOVE to touch Kian when we are in public which is hard to avoid but it does make we wonder if this is where he got it from. I guess since Kian isn't a normal kid and gets sick so easily and looses weight because of it I need to be checking with everyone to make sure no one even has a sniffle because it sets him back :( It's so frustrating because he was just getting on a good swing of gaining weight well.

From what the Dr. says, he should be better in a few days. I hope that’s a case. Please send your thoughts and prayers our way as we need them. Thanks!

Later on....
Now Kian needs breathing treatments at home! I called the Ped at about 1:30 and told them he was still wheezing and they didn't call back until about 4ish and told me to come and pick one of the nurses' up (she LOVES Kian and he loves her - she weighs him every week) because something was up with my insurance and I might not be able to get one until Saturday or Monday. I went to get it. They gave me a few of the meds for the treatments and then I get home and have a message from this guy who was called to get us the nebulizer that has been working like a crazy man trying to find a place that will take my insurance for the machine and what not. I called the Ped to find out if I needed to buy one anyway and they said yes and talked to them about the meds as we will have to pay full price for it because our insurance won't cover it (at least until our deductible is met). PHEW! I was on the phone for an hour and Kian was past due for a nap and whinning in my ear. But all was worked out - the script was called into the pharmacy (both a generic one and the one that we would pay full price for) and a nebulizer is on it's way to my door at any moment.

BAH! I have not had a shower today and barely ate anything at all (not like I don't have fat to burn though LOL) When DH comes home I will be having his "cooking" which is chinese take out and a big, fat glass of Bailey's! LOL What a day! lol

Update, Anniversary and Milestones

Update on Kian

Kian gained 13 ounces from last week! Last week I didn't get a chance to feed him lunch before we had to weigh him and he was down 2 ounces...I wasn't worried as the amount of food he would have had in his tummy would have been a 6 ounce gain. Dr. Bravo thinks he's doing well but we are going to go ahead with testing on March 9th. I'm not exactly sure what they will do - I am guessing a blood draw and I think they said they will do it in the office. Hopefully Kian's favorite nurse, Stacy, can do it (she’s a Packers fan too :)

Our Third Wedding Anniversary (February 23rd)

Unfortunately I have felt kind of sick since Monday (the day we decided to celebrate since our anniversary was on Wednesday). We had dinner brought in from Tahoe Joe’s – a great steak house here in SLO. It wasn’t much of an anniversary but I did have Jamie home with me since he was off for President’s Day on Monday which made that nice :)

Milestones

Kian started to sit from crawling (which he still mainly does backwards) and pull up to standing all on Monday! Needless to say he didn’t sleep well on Monday night (from all the new stuff he was doing). But he’s back on track with sleeping through the night. He’s also sleeping in his crib! We are so excited to have our room back to ourselves! Now we just need to work on naps once he gets this all down over the next few weeks.

Kian also is starting to crawl forwards but he does a strange little scoot where he puts one leg out to help him get across the room! hehe

Dr. Phil

Thank God for TiVo! I am able to watch shows that I want to watch when I can watch them. One of those shows is Dr. Phil. I am not sure if anyone has watched it over the last few days or not but it was about a family who thinks their 19-year-old son is a sexual predator. Here is a link to the show: http://www.drphil.com/show/show.jhtml?contentId=3210_polygraph.xml
The family thought that he might be abusing their 4-year-old daughter. He denied doing any such thing at all to her or to anyone else. After taking a polygraph test it was revealed that he did sexually molest his sister and other girls he came into contact – girls not women. He finally admitted he did it (he actually said that he thought he passed the poly - unbelievable) but I question if he really is sorry he did it or sorry he got caught. He has molested several young girls that his family knows of, he’s a pathological liar, looks at porn and calls the 1-900 numbers. I have seen these same signs in some other cases I know of with sexual predators…scary how they have a pattern.

There has been some discussion on one of my May Mommy boards about this show. Some ladies feel bad for the kid. Others were victims of abuse and applaud Dr. Phil’s work. For me, I am glad that this subject was brought out into the open. At least it’s now known what this man did to his sister and now she can be protected. I guess it goes to show that these people can do hurtful and sick things to someone they love and are close to. I am thankful that I have never been in contact with any such person and I pray that Kian will never encounter anyone of this nature either.

Kian gained weight!

Kian gained 6 ounces this week! He weights 15-7 (which is below the 5% for weight). This is the first weight we have had since he has been on whole milk and having Yo Baby yogurt as well. It was great to see the gain :)

Kian was also tested for anemia – I guess they do this test for all babies that are 9 months of age and his iron was very low so is on an Iron supplement again. They suggested Fer-in-Sol but we already had some of a different brand at home that they said would work. We were giving him the iron supplement after he got out of the hospital.

We also talked to the Dr. about having tests done anyway for CF and growth hormone deficiency and he actually said he was going to suggest it anyway. He wants to do it in March because they get more accurate tests in older babies plus he wants him to have more weight on him and he suspects he will be close to 16lbs by next week!

They are going to test for CF here in town. I guess they are going to do a DNA test first and then if CF shows up they will do a sweat test. The Dr. doesn’t think he has it but feels we need to rule it out as a possibility.

Anyway, that’s what is happening here with us! Kian’s a little cranky now…not sure if it’s from the shot and the toe prick he had today…he usually doesn’t cry unless there is something wrong. Right now in his Jumperoo having a grand time hehe

Sleeping through the night and waiting for weight check

KIAN SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT!

That was the first time ever! I didn’t get much sleep as I am used to him waking up and needing me so I was worried about him breathing and stuff hehe He has been waking up and putting himself back to sleep lately too. It’s been SO nice that we don’t have to go in to comfort him! Not to mention, he’s showing me that he doesn’t need me to feed him in the middle of the night now. I am wondering if it’s because he’s getting more calories from the whole milk and Yo Baby Yogurt that I have been giving him. (Yo Baby is made with whole milk and is organic). Whatever it is I am just happy that he’s doing much better at night and hopefully I will be able to get some sleep soon too :)

Weight….waiting and wondering…

I am really curious as to what Kian weighs now after being on whole milk. I sure hope it’s made a difference! He doesn't take much from a sippy cup but I knew he probably wouldn't seeing that he won't take much of my milk in it either. I am continuing to breastfeed but a lot of times I don't have anything to give him so I offer him the sippy with whole milk. I can’t believe the weight that has been taken off of my shoulders with the introduction on whole milk! I am not as stressed as I used to be because I know that if I don’t have enough to give him there is another source that he will accept and his belly is ok with. Even so, Kian does get a good meal of breast milk in the morning (seeing he’s pretty much cut out eating at night) and he gets at least another good one sometime during the day…usually after he wakes up from his afternoon nap.

Weight Check and Mom's Thoughts

Weekly Weight Check and Appointment with Dr. Bravo

Well, yesterday I started to really lose my milk. Kian is not getting enough to eat breast milk wise and we weren’t able to get in to see Dr. Bravo until today. Kian HATES formula and has gagged on it when I have tried to give it to him – he is known to vomit things out of his mouth and everything else follows afterwards. So, Dr. Bravo told us to start him on whole milk early – I know they used to put babies on whole milk earlier than one year but studies have shown that babies can have milk allergies so they prolonged putting babies on milk to at least a year old. Kian did take some whole milk from a bottle today – not much be he did take some. I am just praying that he takes well to having it in a bottle or sippy cup because I have a feeling I won’t have much left to give him in a while.

Kian’s weight today was 15lbs. 1 ounce. So he only gained an ounce from last week. Dr. Bravo said that since he’s more mobile (he’s scooting around but backward) he is burning more calories. He said that I just need to feed him high calorie foods like avocados and things like that. Kian actually ate a whole avocado with dinner tonight! I was so proud of him! Dr. Bravo also said that he wants Kian to gain a pound a month and to be 3lbs. more by the time he’s a year old. He talked once again about doing tests at that point for CF (cystic fibrosis) and for growth hormone deficiency.

We will go in next week for Kian’s immunizations and Jamie and I plan to ask if we can just go ahead with the tests just to give us peace of mind or be able to start treatment right away.

Some Thoughts from Mom…

When I was pregnant I never thought that anything would go wrong – even that having a c-section would happen. I certainly never thought that anything could be wrong with my child. This year has been a tough one. Starting with Kian’s birth being rough, me almost dieing afterwards, then on to breastfeeding issues, weight problems, illnesses, hospitalizations, more weight problems, more breastfeeding problems. Sometimes it’s very hard to see the glass as half full instead of half empty! The one thing that I am thankful for is that fact that Kian is a pretty happy little guy now and doing fairly well accept for his weight. I keep reminding myself that God never gives me more than I can handle but I have to honest that I am pretty close to my limit…I am just hoping that there will be some sort of light at the end of the tunnel soon.

Weight, A Tooth, Starting to Crawl, Stranger’s Wrath, and One Year at OW!

Stranger’s Wrath

This has been a pretty eventful week for us. The game that Jamie has been working on with Oddworld released on Tuesday (Best Buy said it would be in stores on Thursday) and to GREAT reviews! We are all very excited about the game and looking forward to seeing more and more about its success now that it’s released. Oddworld’s President, Loren Lanning has been on several shows on G4TV.com (which used to be Tech TV) talking about the game. One show was devoted to it that premiered last night called Cheats – so if you want to check it out I am sure they will play the show with Stranger’s Wrath again.

Happy Anniversary to Jameson!

Today is Jameson’s first anniversary of working at Oddworld! Congrats honey! I am so proud of all your hard work and efforts that you have contributed to the company! Oddworld even sent a company wide email to congratulate him – how nice :)

Kian has His First Tooth!

It finally popped out yesterday! He never had any drooling or real fussiness during the whole thing – he’s a trooper! You really won’t know he was teething unless you looked in his mouth or saw him gnawing on his finger. I will take a picture of it when I can – it sure it sharp!

Update on Kian's Weight

Kian gained 10 ounces in the last week! He now weighs 14lbs. 13 ounces. The Doctor was very pleased to say the least! We have to do weight checks on him every week for a while but so far it looks like he's still playing catch up from his hospitalization in November. So no tests yet and it looks like everything is going well with his weight.

Right now I am very concerned about my breast milk. I am taking Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle and I feel as though my milk is declining. I am borrowing a scale from my lactation consultant so I can see how much he’s getting and today after his nap he only got .6 of an ounce :( He had to work really hard to get that too. I am going to see if I can bump up the Blessed Thistle again and see if I can get more of a let down happening so he doesn’t have to work so hard for so little. He’s been having very good pee-pee diapers lately so I have just figured that he’s getting enough. I am going to have to work pretty hard at getting it up – I might even start doing some of those old fashioned oats oatmeal smoothies (yum – not!). I will have the scale until Friday morning so I will be using it until then – I am praying that things will go better. We would appreciate some prayers in that area as Kian won’t take a bottle or formula.

Kian has gained well!

Well, Kian is doing good :) His ear infection has cleared up and he gained 7 ounces in the last week! Dr. Bravo was VERY pleased to say the least! He asked me what exactly I was feeding him and I was able to tell him about Kian’s troubles breastfeeding – he won’t stay on very long during the day because he wants to be active and babble. He told me to do EXACTLY what I was doing this week and hopefully he will gain another 6 ounces at least. He said that we might even start him on whole milk earlier than a year just to help him bulk up – he said that Kian definitely not a typical kid. If not we might do some tests. Dr. Bravo was very happy to know that Kian can gain weight though. I guess since we saw him last week he talked to the doctor we had in the hospital to see what tests she ran to see if something might have been missed. It makes me feel good that we are in his care – he seems to be very concerned and wants to get to the bottom of this if there is a bottom. Right now I would like to ask everyone to continue prayers for Kian and keep him in their thoughts….that if there is something wrong that it would make itself known and if not that he would just gain well.

Funny thing is that Dr. Bravo looked in his ears and in his mouth (his teeth are about to poke through) and Kian just let him do whatever lol It’s so funny how easy going Kian is (for the most part). Which is such a drastic change from how he used to be!

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and thoughts. Keep them coming!

From Daddy's Blog :)

I was looking at Jamie's blog today and noticed a funny story I wanted to post here too. Here it is: Jamie tells it better than I do because he was there!

"It's Christmas Eve, and I'm at the grocery store with Sarah's Uncle Dave, and her Step Father Randy...

I'm standing behind them both in the check out lane, when a guy behind me tries to get Randy's attention to ask where he got his Brett Favre jersey that he's wearing.

I told the guy that he arrived from Wisconsin the day before, and it came with him.

The guy says he's been looking everywhere for one and cant' find one for less that $50. His Son wants one REALLY bad, and he's been unable to get one yet. (this is Christmas Eve)

He offers Randy $20 for the Jersey...to which he kind of smirks and say's it would cost more to replace it.

So after we are finished checking out, the guy says how about $40! Randy is tempted...but decides that he'd better not.

So we get just outside the doors, and the guy comes running up and offers $50 for it! Randy agrees, and the guy says he needs to go to the ATM. He leaves his groceries sitting on the ground near us...and takes off running.

After we've been standing there for a while, the guy comes flying back through the doors...and says he was afraid we'd left! There was a line at the atm.

Up until this point, i just thought it was a nice thing for Randy to do... but once we saw how uncontrollably happy this guy was about getting this jersey, it was awesome. He was pumping his fist in the air, and acting like a 10 year old. His son should have a good Christmas, and we have a story to tell :)"

When Randy came back to the house without it on it took a while for my Mom to realize that he didn't have his jearsey. She then told Randy she bought it on a clearance rack at Shopko (only found in WI) for like $15! hehe Oh well, at least this kid had a good Christmas :)

Little Update on Kian

Sleep...What's that?

Well, Kian is starting to sleep a bit better now that I think his antibiotics have started to help his ear infection. Jamie and I are really working on getting Kian to sleep better and we realized that he really won't sleep without me. Tonight we started having Jamie go in there with him most of the time when he cries and with each time he is crying for less time and falling asleep. Right now the two of them are asleep together :) How sweet :) Soon we will once again begin the transition from our bed and set up a plan for what we are going to do with Kian during night time stuff. For now this is the only change as we want him to get well and get lots of rest.

Getting that Weight Back Up

I am getting a bit anxious about going to see Dr. Bravo on Wednesday. I am hoping that Kian's weight it back up but I am still going to push for testing just to make sure that everything is ok with him. I have started giving Kian solids three times a day and he is starting to take a little bit of prune juice and water from a bottle - he loves that combo. And when I say a little bit I mean 1/2 ounce tops. I think it will be really funny when he's 15 years old and eating everything in the house for us to tell him how bad he was at keeping his weight on lol

Sad News - Our Friends are Moving :(

Our friends Steve and Lisa are moving next month to Seattle. Jamie works with Steve and they quickly became good friends. We have hung out with them a lot and they were even Kian's first visitors ever in the hospital. They also attended Kian's dedication and we plan to have Kian call them Uncle Steve and Aunt Lisa. We sure will miss them more than we can express. We are excited though that they are engaged! Steve proposed over the Christmas break :) They have a date set for October 2006 - so we all will be making a trip up there for the wedding :) Jamie will be a groomsman :) We are sad to see them go but we are also very excited about the opportunity that Steve has. We wish many blessings upon them! We love you guys!

Christmas, Colds, Size of Clothes, and lots of Worry

Christmas

Christmas was wonderful :) My parents flew in on the 23rd and we spent Christmas at my Uncle Dave and Aunt Lori’s place. It was a full house to say the least! On Christmas Eve my cousin Allison, her husband Scott and her daughter Camlyn came to celebrate. My Grandma and Grandpa Zuelzke were there too. We also brought Toby with us. We had to add on to the table this year for dinner!

Then we opened gifts on Christmas morning and it took about 3 hours! We open gifts one at a time so we can all see what everyone got. Kian had so many gifts that he had to open two every turn and he still was last to open gifts! hehe He sure enjoyed all of his new toys :)

Clothes

Kian is starting to wear his 6-9 month clothing finally! He’s kind of in that in-between stage right now where the 3-6 month stuff is too small and the 6-9 month stuff is just a big big – especially length wise. He is mainly wearing one piece outfits and pajamas right now in the larger size but I hope to see him in the other stuff real soon.

Colds

We all had colds this Christmas. Jamie got it first and then me and Kian got it. We are all still getting over them. Kian has taken the worst hit of all. He has been refusing a bottle altogether and it’s been a huge task for me to keep him hydrated – his diapers are still pretty dry. I called Dr. Bravo’s office today and asked about his cough and if there was reason to be concerned as he seemed to be wheezing between coughs. The nurse told me to feel on his chest when he wasn’t making noise or coughing and I did so she said he needed an appointment to make sure he didn’t have bronchitis or an infection in his lungs.

Dr. Bravo weighed Kian and he has lost almost and entire pound from the last time he was in. He also has an ear infection in his right ear. Dr. Bravo told me he was concerned about how many set backs he has had with his weight and that next week if he hasn’t gained well then he is going to run some tests to see if something might be wrong with Kian. Dr. Bravo said that if it were his son he would want tests run. I think that I might even just have him run the tests anyway for my peace of mind. If something is wrong with him I want to start treatment right away and if there isn’t then I know that he’s just a stubborn little guy. I sure hope he’s stubborn! We would appreciate your prayers for him!

Kian is such a happy guy that I never knew his ear was bothering him. I just knew he was a bit cranky and it might be from teething along with the cold. I never thought I would walk out of the Dr.’s office with script for an ear infection. I am so glad that I brought him though. We will go back to see Dr. Bravo next Wednesday for a follow-up and weight check which might result in some blood work – I am hoping to get blood work anyway and I thinking that Dr. Bravo will feel the same way.

Here is right before meeting Santa :)

Check out these photos of Kian with Santa - I thought he might start to cry but he didn't! hehe

Here is our cute guy in his Exersaucer near the Christmas tree :)

Mommy and Kian after we did our Family Photo for our Christmas letter - at least he's looking at the camera for once!

This has been the BEST day!

Today has been the best day! I did lock myself out of the house and the car on the day to Mom’s Group this morning. So Kian and I waited outside for Jamie to come and unlock the door for us. But thankfully that wouldn’t set the tone for the rest of the day :) Today was Jamie’s last day of work for the year (he has the rest of the year off!) He also got a bonus from the completion of the game and got a lot of positive feedback about how they think he’s doing. I am so proud of him!

THEN tonight was Oddworld’s Holiday Party. It was at the Madonna Inn. Priscilla (the lady I lived when I lived in SLO a few years ago) came and watched Kian. It was the first time that Jamie and I left the house without him! I was VERY nervous…more concerned about Priscilla having to endure his screaming! I guess he fell asleep about 10 mins after we left and did fairly well. He was a crank a lot of the time, but he did pretty well. Even though I was nervous I knew that Kian was in good hands :)

The party was great! Jamie and I had so much fun :) We had dinner, an open bar and after dinner there was gambling to win tickets to put toward winning items like a X-box, digital camera, DVD player to name a few. Before he started we were told to look under our chairs for envelopes and Jamie ended up winning an X-box game. Then Jamie and I played blackjack and Texas hold ‘em poker. I stayed at the same table all night – the dealer was super nice and helped me out a lot. It was so much fun :) We came out with A LOT of tickets and I ended up winning the digital camera!!! I really wanted it because I wanted to get an upgrade to the camera we have now but we can’t afford to do that. It’s an AMAZING camera that does a lot of stuff that I couldn’t even imagine! It is about the size of a credit card, takes video that has audio, and Jamie has read reviews about it that say that it takes professional looking photos! Jamie put all his tickets in the box to win the Nintendo DS (the new handheld game system) and didn’t win but the person who did heard he wanted it and gave it to him! This is something that they can barely keep in stores right now because it’s so wanted! The person who gave it to him will get some brownies from me when the office is open again!

All in all, it was an awesome day and an awesome night! We are so blessed :) And I am so happy to have Jamie home with us during the day. We can have some good quality time all together before the holidays :)

Christmas and Kian's New Tricks (or lack there of)

Christmas is Right Around the Corner!

Jamie and I bought a beautiful fake tree this year. It is so pretty! I sure do miss the smell of a fresh pine but I don’t miss the needles or the hives I get from the pokes of pine needles (ouch!) It was so neat to go through our ornaments and think about each one and when we got it. Right in the middle front hangs our “Parents to Be” ornament that someone gave us last year as a gift. It’s hard to imagine that I was pregnant at this time last year! In fact on December 22 of last year we found out that Kian was a boy and gave him a name :)

We are very excited for Kian’s first Christmas. We will travel down to my Aunt Lori and Uncle David’s place and on the 23rd my parents will fly in! Randy will be meeting Kian for the first time and I am very excited for that :) My grandparents will also make their way over from Arizona (they are snowbirds) for Christmas and they will see Kian for the first time too. It will be a pretty exciting time for all of us. Christmas Eve will be quite a busy time because not only will we have all the before mentioned people but we will also have my cousin Allison and her husband and one-year-old daughter, Camlyn joining us :) It will be a packed place! But we are looking forward to it!

Look What I Can Do, Mom!

Well, Kian has found out a new trick. He can make himself throw up anything food that I give him that he doesn’t like. He will gag until what he doesn’t like is out if his mouth and usually everything else I just fed him follows. At first I would just say, “No” in a panicked tone when he would start to gag but I figured out if I sing to him and or shake a toy at him it distracts him enough to keep his food down. I also found out that smaller bites and the first taste of food – no matter what it is – he will gag. He really needs everything I give him so it has been a frustrating week or two dealing with Kian and his new trick.

Kian’s Weight

Kian’s weight is on its way up! I weighed him today and he was up about 4 ounces from last week. I will still be weighing him every week just to make sure he’s doing well – we are going every other week to Dr. Bravo so he can monitor his weight too.

Rolling Over

Kian has discovered that if he wants a toy that’s out of reach he can roll from back to front to get it. He does know how to roll back over onto his back but for some reason he seems to have forgotten it over the last week! I have no idea how this happened or why but he will stay on his belly until he cries and cries. I try not to help him unless he cries a lot so he will try to do it on his own.

Gaining, A Christmas Tree, and Daddy's Blog

And the scales tip in Kian's Favor!
It's been a good week so far for Kian :) I took him to my lactation consultant and he was up to 13lbs 12 oz.! The week before I think he was at 12lb 14 oz. She also measured him and he's 25 inches long. Then on Wed. I weighted him at Dr. Bravo's office and they weighed him 8 days before at 13lbs. and his weight that day was 14lbs. 4oz! Dr. Bravo was very pleased :) He is the the 3% for weight and height but he seems to be making a curve on the growth charts now so that is the right growth for him. Little stinker is still in 1-2 sized diapers! lol

I don't think Kian is getting as much milk as he should. It's not a problem on my end, it's a problem because he wants to talk and be social. I get him to eat pretty well when he's super hungry or tired though so I try to catch him like that as often as possible. I am going to talk to Dr. Bravo on Monday about eating with Kian. Right now I am packing calories into him and I want to make sure that I have a healthy balance going on so I don't set him up to be overweight.

I will be going to a free breastfeeding clinic on Wednesday and weigh Kian again then. He will also have his 6 months immunizations done on Monday. He was sick when he should have had them - poor guy had his 6 month birthday in the hospital. It was very strange to be in the hospital at that time - the pediatric ward has double doors that separate them from the Mommy Baby ward - it was strange to think that 6 months ago to the day I was on the other side of the floor recovering from surgery and Jamie and I were trying to figure out how to care for Kian.

We have a Christmas Tree!
Also, other huge news is that Jamie's Mom sold the Christmas tree we had when we were living there so we had money to buy a very nice tree this year! We are so excited to put it up! This weekend we will do some decorating for Christmas :)

Daddy's Blog!
Jamie now has his own blog :) So if you want to read up on Daddy's perspective on things take a look :) http://www.jamesondurall.blogspot.com/

Photos of Kian - Including his Hospital Stay

We haven't had a chance to update our website with photos in a while, but I wanted to get some of them in my blog right away. Hopefully we will have photos up soon for viewing.

First, here's a photo of our little Packer Fan (shhh...don't tell Daddy hehe)

Here's Kian with Nurse Shelley. She cared for Kian during the day shift for almost the entire time he was in the hospital. She worked really hard to get a feeding plan down for Kian too :)

Here's an upclose shot of Kian with his feeding tube. I think he was the happiest sick kid in the entire hospital!

Here's another one of "Happy Man" with Daddy

Here's a photo of him sitting in his highchair ready for some cereal - this was before he was sick. His little head barely comes over the tray hehe

Here's one on Halloween. Kian was Spiderman :) I think he's trying to tell us that it's time for some trick or treating hehe It was hard to take photos of him because he kept wanting to play with the bag!
